National Day of Action
May 4, 2023On April 27, 2023 Managing Attorney Victoria Gentry met with Congressional offices from Tennessee on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C. to educate and lobby on behalf of immigration reform. She was selected as the delegation from Tennessee by the American Immigration Lawyers’ Association (AILA) for their annual National Day of Action. Ms. Gentry met with the offices of Sen. Marsha Blackburn, Sen. Bill Hagerty, Rep. John Rose, Rep. Kustoff, and Rep. Scott DesJarlais in order to advance AILA’s mission of promoting fair and reasonable immigration laws.
While meeting with these Congressional offices, Ms. Gentry she requested that Congress address long backlogs at the USCIS that have not yet recovered from the COVID and Trump years. As well, she discussed how, by increasing the annual limit of H-1B visas, Congress could address and remedy the nationwide labor shortage. Furthermore, she shared her clients’ stories concerning the lack of availability of InfoPass appointments and challenges at local Department of Motor Vehicles locations. All of the Congressional offices were responsive and open to these commonsense strategies and showed a strong desire in learning more about how our country is made better through immigration reform.
The Immigration Group looks forward to working with members of Congress in the future to improve Immigration policy and, as a result, improve the quality of life for our clients.
