Form I-693 is Valid Indefinitely
April 9, 2024A properly completed Form I-693 is now valid indefinitely.
The USCIS has issued guidance regarding the evidentiary value of the Form I-693, stating that a properly completed Form I-693 signed by a civil surgeon on or after November 1, 2023, retains its evidentiary value and does not expire. This interpretation is effective immediately.
This is excellent news for all Adjustment of Status applicants, but it is particularly welcome information for foreign nationals born in India and China, who face extremely long waiting lines in the EB-2 and EB-3 green card categories. This interpretation should allow them to apply for a medical exam only once, if properly completed, saving them a significant amount of money and time. Previously, medical exams were valid for up to 2 years, at which point a reviewing USCIS officer would issue a Request for Evidence for a newly completed Form I-693.
The cost of a properly completed Form I-693 varies based on geographic region and availability of civil surgeons in that area. Typically, there is a flat fee for completion of the form plus an additional fee for any labs or vaccinations that the applicant will need to be compliant with the medical standards. The total cost of the properly completed Form I-693 ranges between $250 and $500 paid to the civil surgeon. There is no filing fee for Form I-693.
