Employers Should Download E-Verify Historical Data Before Year End
October 8, 2014On January 1, 2015, the E-Verify program will delete from its system all transaction records that are more than 10 years old. After that date, employers will no longer have access in E-Verify to cases created prior to December 31, 2004. Employers desiring a record of their cases that are more than 10 years old must download the newly created Historic Records Report before December 31, 2014. This report will include all transaction records for cases more than 10 years old.
Employers are encouraged to retain the Historic Records Report with their I-9 records. (As a best practice, employers also should record the E-Verify case verification number on the relating I-9 form or attach the E-Verify confirmation to it at the time that the E-Verify check is performed.) Employers who were not using E-Verify before December 31, 2004 need not download the report, as there will of course be no records to report. Going forward, the USCIS will delete transaction records that are more than ten years old annually and employers will be advised each year when the Historic Records Report becomes available for downloading.
